Evidence Warehouse to be Technology Showcase
Fairfax, VA, March 15, 2010 - Orion Systems Group has been selected by The Department of Real Estate Services (DRES), the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Office of the Chief Technology Officer and Office of Contracting and Procurement to design and deploy the integrated security management system for the new Property and Evidence Warehouse for the District of Columbia.
The new MPD Evidence Warehouse will integrate law-enforcement best practices and the use of technology to create a 21st century evidence facility. The Warehouse will combine traditional and high density automated storage retrieval system with specialized law enforcement technology to maintain chain of custody and store and retrieve evidence. The Evidence Warehouse will be a LEED silver facility and will be located at DC Village.
Commenting on the critical nature of the project, Washington DC Mayor Adrian Fenty stated: “We’ve got to provide our police force the tools to do their jobs. This facility will be equipped to handle millions of items of evidence held by the Metropolitan Police Department and integrate best practices and advanced technology for safe and responsible storage.” Advanced systems include computer-automated storage system for logging and retrieval of evidence, secure and controlled access to all areas, video event logging of transactions, bar code scanning and refrigerated units for storing DNA samples.
The primary focus of the electronic security technology initiatives for the Evidence Warehouse is to utilize native IT enabled components and deployment strategies that allow MPD to securely store, inventory, retrieve, and track evidence efficiently. Orion Systems Group will provide the design, coordination, deployment, programming, management, monitoring, and maintenance of the electronic security management system for the complex. Technology systems deployed will include the following:
These systems will utilize a single software package to allow for centralized control and reporting of security management data that will meet MPD’s immediate and long-term security objectives.
